Shattered Dreams: Ensemble Nari
Dormition Abbey

A special festive concert in preparation for the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition

Silvery moon-touched wavelets mingle across the stream with the tears of the broken-hearted; a lovestruck shepherd dreams of becoming a nightingale, fluttering from branch to branch and singing his sorrowful song to the empty woods; a mortal woman succeeds in seducing the king of the gods... These are but a few of the stories that will be brought to life through music in our new and captivating program!

Featuring music by Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi, Alessandro Scarlatti, John Christopher Pepusch, and others, combined with original declaimed texts and storytelling.

Concert duration: about 65 minutes.

Nari Baroque Ensemble

Nari Baroque Ensemble

Their ability to combine historical performance practice with emotional depth and technical brilliance makes them one of the most promising ensembles in the Baroque music scene.
- Ilka Grimm, Kulturbüro Göttingen

The young ensemble impressed the jury and the audience not only with its musicality, technical quality, well-thought-out program and rousing performance, but also with a coherent concept...
- Christiane Irrgang, NDR Kultur

The Nari Baroque Ensemble, active since 2019, specializes in performing baroque music on period instruments. Each of Nari’s concerts tells a unique story, formed by a carefully devised combination of original texts with musical excerpts from baroque pieces - cantatas, sonatas, operas, and more... Inspired by historical practices, the ensemble brings every sentence and each musical phrase to life, creating an immersive emotional experience that truly moves the audience.

Selected as finalists for the York International Young Artists Competition of July 2026, Fabulous Fringe at the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2025, and winners of the Göttingen Händel Competition 2024 (both main prize and special prize for “Music and Space”), Nari’s members are especially known for bringing their passion to the frontstage, communicating with the audience on a deeply emotional level. Their practice, while rooted in historical practices, constantly strives to bring new meaning to the music, providing it with an organically modern context and bringing it closer than ever to the modern spectator.

Nari has performed in major international and national festivals, including the Fel!x Festival in Cologne, the Göttingen International Händel Festival (broadcast on NDR Kultur and NDR Fernsehen), and the Felicja Blumental International Music Festival in Tel Aviv. The ensemble has also performed in major chamber music series, including “Youth at the Center” at the Jerusalem Music Center, “Monday Afternoon Concerts” at the Hebrew University, and “the Holiday of Holidays” in Haifa.
