four hundred years of Jewish liturgy
Ensemble Soularon, conducted by Rami Barber

Merkaz Moreshe Begin

Songs, prayers and melodies from the 16th century to the present day, from brit mila to old age, from Kiddush to the "Kaddish", all performed by a choir with instrumental accompaniment.

Unlike in Christian culture, there are few examples of art music integrated into prayer in the synagogue, and prominent in this regard is Salomone de Rossi from Padua, at the beginning of the 17th century, whose collection of writings "The Songs of Solomon" was a rather unique breakthrough - until the establishment of the Progressive Judaism movement in the 19th century, which gradually introduced musically composed poetry, either performed by the congregation or artistically.

Based on this, the Jewish liturgical program - or more precisely, the Hebrew liturgical program - of the Soularon Ensemble in this concert, relates mainly to the cultural components of the compositions performed and less to the prayer component, using biblical and poetic texts: De Rossi's part in the program will be sung in the words of the "Kaddish", in Renaissance style.
In this concert, the Ensemble invites you on a journey among the communities of the Jewish people.
